Steve Porcaro

Steve Porcaro

Steve Porcaro is a platinum-selling songwriter (“Human Nature”), film/TV
composer (FX’s Justified), synth programmer/keyboardist, and founding member
of Grammy-winning pop-rock band Toto, formed with his brothers Jeff and Mike
Porcaro, all second-generation musicians raised by jazz drummer and educator
Joe Porcaro. A touring professional by 17, Steve went from Gary Wright’s
Dreamweaver tour to Boz Scaggs’ Six Degrees tour, eventually helping Toto craft
hits like “Africa,” “Rosanna,” and “Hold the Line.” An early adopter of analog and
digital synthesizers, his programming and sound design shaped records for
Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Hall & Oates, and Don Henley. His song “Human
Nature” became a standout on Thriller, the best-selling album of all time. His
music has been widely sampled, and he continues composing and producing, with
his follow-up solo album The Very Day (2025) as his most recent release.
